The Story (so far...)

The Fawkes story actually begins some time ago – long before our doors even opened!

The passion for cycling begins with the exploits of our founders, Nigel and Mandy. Their cycling insight is rooted in elite performance and competition stretching back over 40 years – Mandy as a former Women's World Road Race Champion and Nigel previously competing as a rider in the Great Britain national team.

From this background, here at Fawkes Cycles, we can boast reliable and real-world expertise, that we'd love to share with you.

Mandy Jones - Women's World Road Race Champion.

Almost forty years have passed since Mandy won the World Championship road race at Goodwood, but the significance of that victory and her career should not be forgotten. In the 1980s, Mandy was British cycling's tenacious world-beater, paving the way for the sport's modern stars without the backing that many enjoy today.

That hard-won expertise was put to good use when in 2007, after a period of working with Manchester’s brightest and best in cycling, Fawkes Cycles was opened in Oldham. It didn’t take us long to start plotting online expansion. Since 2009, we have existed purely on an online basis – offering cyclist a digital utopia and operated as the Fawkes Cycles family you know today.

There’s a personal statement that crops up time and time again in our riding circles, which is “we just want to ride our bikes”. It’s a simple, effective and inclusive mantra. At Fawkes Cycles, we try to keep it just as simple. We strive to offer cyclists of all stripes and experience levels the kind of high-quality bikes and components that we ourselves expect to be offered.

 Our values

At Fawkes, we believe cycling is for everybody. All manner of people get in the saddle for a whole host of reasons, and one of our motivations is the need to bring people together. It's a crucial part of the Fawkes story that we are dedicated to making cycling accessible. Part of that is reflected in what products we offer, but as champions of pathways to elite cycling The Rayner Foundation is something that we hold close as an organisation that seeks to lower barriers to top-level cycling for young riders. As well as this, we are also advocates for women in cycling, hoping to inspire the next generation to believe they, too, can be world champions!

As committed and active cyclists ourselves, we try to share our knowledge as best we can. We have an overwhelming drive to just do right by people – to combine our enthusiasm with the push to be the kind of proprietors we think other enthusiasts deserve. We hope that our passion and dedication is something you recognise and would like to share in too!
