Avid Hydraulic Disc Brakes
These use a fluid-filled system to transfer force from the brake lever to the brake callipers, making them a consistent and powerful option. Hydraulic disc brakes from Avid are often used by those who like to cycle in demanding conditions, such as wet or muddy environments.
Avid Mechanical Disc Brakes
The second type of Avid brake is the mechanical disc brake, which is often considered a more affordable alternative to hydraulic systems. They are easier to maintain and adjust but will provide less power and modulation when compared to hydraulic brake systems.
Avid Rim Brakes
Avid rim brakes are not as commonly used in modern high-performing cycling, and are more typically used in road bikes and cyclocross bikes. They do, however, offer powerful braking and easy mud clearance.
