Shimano XTR BR-M9220/BL-M9220 4-Piston Brake Set

The Shimano XTR BR-M9220 caliper and BL-M9220 lever is the brand's hardest-hitting trail and enduro brake set — a ground-up redesign with a new lever architecture, a one-piece four-piston caliper and the long-awaited fix for that wandering bite point. Supplied as a full front and rear pairing, it is built for riders who want race-grade modulation and the kind of late-braking confidence that rewrites lines on the steep stuff.

Engineered for trail and enduro punishment

The BR-M9220 is the strongest stopper in the XTR M9200 family. A one-piece forged caliper body replaces the previous two-piece bolted construction, ramping up stiffness and slicing parasitic flex from the system. Dual-diameter ceramic pistons remain — smaller leading, larger trailing — for progressive engagement that builds power without snatching the rotor. Translation: enormous bite when wanted, surgical control when it isn't.

The new ERGO FLOW lever, explained

The BL-M9220 is where the biggest shift lives. The master cylinder now pulls rather than pushes, allowing the lever pivot to sit 5 mm closer to the handlebar. The blade is swept upward by five degrees so it follows the natural arc of an index finger through the stroke, instead of curling back into the grip at the bite point. A redesigned SERVO WAVE cam ramps power smoothly and fast, while tool-free reach adjust and free stroke adjustment let it be tuned trailside without a single Allen key in sight.

Low-viscosity mineral oil — bite point sorted

Shimano's reformulated low-viscosity mineral oil flows consistently across a far wider temperature range, which is the headline fix for the inconsistent bite point that has nagged previous-generation XTR brakes. Updated seals and a redesigned bleed port complete the hydraulic overhaul. The result is a lever feel that lands in the same place on the first run of the day, the fifth lap of a bike park session and the bottom of the longest descent on the map.

Important note: the new low-viscosity oil is not backward compatible with previous Shimano brakes, and previous Shimano mineral oil must not be used in the M9220. The existing TL-BT03/TL-BR002 bleed kit still works for the procedure itself.

Silent power, finally

A redesigned pad and mount interface kills the rattle that has haunted finned Shimano pads for years. Oval mounting hardware damps vibration at the pad ears, so technical chatter stays at the rotor and out of the cockpit. Supplied P04C-MF metal pads are Ice-Tech finned for fade resistance on long descents, and remain compatible with the wider Shimano pad range.

DELIVERY

Delivery to mainland UK addresses are free for orders over £40. Except when you choose delivery to a third party (Click and Collect) there is a charge of £5.95 to cover some of the additional cost the couriers charge for this service. If you choose to collect from Fawkes warehouse there is no shipping charge.

There will an additional charge for deliveries to Highlands and Islands. 

RETURNS TO FAWKES

Whether it’s a jersey that doesn’t fit, or the colour is not quite right, sometimes you’ll need to return items to us.

If an item is 'as new' and has not been used or fitted in any way, you can return it to us by post within 90 days of delivery for a refund. Please ensure that the goods are returned in their original packaging and are in an unused condition.

Customers need to pay the cost of return delivery unless the item is faulty and this will be deducted from your refund, currently £3.95.

You will not receive a refund for the retail value of any free or promotional items you are sent, and you will be charged if they are not returned.

UNWANTED ITEMS

If you change your mind on your purchase, you have a full 90 days to return it for a refund. All Goods must be unused, in a saleable condition and in their original packaging with all labels still attached.

There are some exclusions to our 90 day returns policy, which are detailed below:

Nutritional products or those with a best before date must be returned within 28 days*

Any customised items such as wheel builds cannot be returned*

GPS systems such as sports watches or cycle computers can only be returned if unregistered*

For hygiene reasons, any intimate garments such as facemasks, underwear and swimsuits can only be returned if the items are faulty.

FAULTY ITEMS

If you feel that your purchase has developed a fault, then please contact us with photographs of the issue before returning any goods - we may be able to solve your problem without you incurring any further inconvenience.

If you find a fault with your item, send it back to us and we'll take a look at it as soon as we can. Items sent back to us will undergo an inspection and it may be necessary to send the item away to the manufacturer to confirm the fault. If we confirm a manufacturing fault, we'll happily replace or refund it.

Faulty items should be returned within a reasonable time and in a clean and dry condition. PLEASE NOTE, WE WILL NOT PROCESS DIRTY ITEMS.
