Gaerne Cycling Shoes: Size Chart & Fit Guide
Gaerne has been hand-building cycling footwear in Italy's Veneto region since 1962, and the brand is worn by professional riders across the road, gravel and mountain bike disciplines. Getting the size right matters: a well-fitted cycling shoe transfers power efficiently, eliminates hot spots on long rides and prevents heel lift under load. The chart and fit notes below help riders order the correct Gaerne size first time.

How to Measure Foot Length
Step-by-Step Measurement
Place a sheet of paper on a hard floor and stand on it wearing a pair of cycling socks.
Mark the back of the heel and the tip of the longest toe, then measure the distance between the two points in centimetres.
Repeat the process for the other foot, as most riders have one foot slightly longer than the other.
Take the larger of the two measurements and match it to the chart above to find the correct Gaerne size.
Do Gaerne Cycling Shoes Fit True to Size?
Length
Gaerne cycling shoes run true to size for length, with the brand's own EU sizing closely matching the foot-length measurements stated on the chart. Riders who already know their EU size from another Italian cycling brand can typically order the equivalent Gaerne size with confidence.
Width and Volume
Gaerne is built on a traditional Italian last, which produces a precise, performance-oriented fit through the midfoot and heel. The forefoot is slightly narrower than the volume found on mainstream brands such as Shimano, Bontrager or Specialized, which is consistent with most other Italian cycling footwear.
Comparison to Other Brands
Sidi: equivalent sizing — a rider who takes EU 43 in Sidi will usually take EU 43 in Gaerne.
Shimano: Gaerne tends to fit slightly narrower at the forefoot for the same EU size.
Specialized and Bontrager: Gaerne sits closer to the foot through the toe box; riders accustomed to a roomier fit may prefer to size up by half a size.
Wide-Fit Options
Selected Gaerne models, including the G.Record, are offered in a dedicated wide-fit version for riders requiring extra forefoot volume. Where available, the wide-fit option is listed alongside the standard width on the relevant product page.
Sizing Recommendations
Riders with average or narrow feet should order their usual EU size.
Riders with wider feet should size up by half a size or choose a wide-fit model where available.
Riders whose foot length falls between two sizes should select the larger of the two; a cycling shoe should hold the foot securely without compressing the toes.
For winter use over thicker socks, sizing up by half a size is sensible.
The Fawkes Cycles team is happy to advise on Gaerne sizing for any specific model in the range — please contact customer service before ordering if any doubt remains.
